Villain Overview

Synopsis

Rumor has it that a powerful witch lives deep, deep within the forest. Hidden amongst the trees and wildlife, she is said to have the power to bring one's deepest desire into fruition. What kid wouldn't dream of endless riches, popularity, or success? Your deepest desires were awfully promising.
~ The protagonist speaking about one of the rumors that they had heard from the locals about the forest.
I am a Strawberry Witch! My magic is centered around strawberries, plants and all things sweet! I use my magic to make lovely treats in hopes of making people smile.
~ Strawberry introducing herself to the protagonist.

Lottie, better known as Strawberry, is the main antagonist of the 2024 indie horror visual novel Berrywitched!. She is voiced by Phebe Fabacher[1] . She is a witch that can use magic that is related to strawberries. She also runs a bakery in the middle of the forest despite the unsavory rumors of people going missing after entering the forest. It was revealed that said forest was a pocket dimension as Strawberry was dispatched there and was tasked to fulfill the greatest desires of the people who got lost in the forest.

However, as the time went by, Strawberry had experienced several tragedies after forming a bond or taking care of people who were lost in the forest, causing her mental instability to crumble while also growing more desperate to help people who were lost in the forest in order to prevent their deaths. While in the end, she might not be a villain due to lack of malicious intent (Albeit in some of her endings, she began to snap and commit villainous actions), her actions and deeds can be considered villainous and can be treated in the wrong. This is due to the fact that she had to resort to use extreme methods to keep people safe or at one point, having her mental instability consume her–despite not excusing her behavior–which causes her to snap and murder one of the people that does mean things to her.

Appearance[]

Strawberry's appearance irradiated the whimsical side of her, as she was also described as a person with bright disposition. In terms of clothing, Strawberry herself wears a fancy yet cute clothing that can be described as a large, pink dress with a frilled section around the neck and breast region and her dress has short, strawberry-shaped sleeves. In her wrists, it is shown that she wears dainty, white wrist cuffs that match the frilled parts of her dress that almost forms like a glove. In the bottom parts of her dress, it is also shown that she wears a pink apron with a heart-shaped seed pattern on her apron, which is tied with a bow on the back of her dress. In the bottom parts of her body, it is also shown that she wears a large, knee-length skirt with frills on the skirt's end, long, white socks, and red Mary Jane shoes. In terms of physical qualities, Strawberry has red eyes with large eyelashes, pink hair ending in curls that surround various accessories (being a red bonnet with pink highlights and a red bow with a strawberry-shaped center), a small nose, and freckles dotting her face. According to the protagonist, when she smiles, it feels rather comforting towards them. In addition, her stench also emanates the smell of freshly baked bread and strawberries. As she will get a redesign in the sequel with the redesign itself being revealed in Berrywitched! The Harvest: Character Introduction Video, her design largely remains the same, although she now has far longer hair, a red bonnet replacing her headband, a green bowtie, and a larger, darker-colored dress.

Personality[]

In the past, Strawberry herself is portrayed as an idealistic and optimistic kind of person, wanting to use her magic in order to make a good impact towards the world. This resulted in her getting sent into the pocket dimension shaped like a forest to help certain people lost in there granting their deepest desires. However, tragedy soon struck to her after befriending several people who went to her forest as tons of people that she befriended died in front of her eyes. After seeing tons of people dying, her mental stability began to crumble apart due to the fact that she was unable to save several people that got lost in the forest who met their own doom. This resulted in her perceiving herself as nothing but a selfish person and a failure of a witch who began to grow desperate to help the people that were lost in the forest meeting their own doom. Despite this, she still keeps her bright and kind disposition until the present day, hiding her own personal struggles beneath her.

During the present day, after meeting the protagonist for the first time, Strawberry decided to put her kind and polite facade towards the protagonist, even if in the end, she did this for an altruistic albeit also a bit selfish reason. This is due to the fact that while her end-goal is attempting to save the protagonist from their imminent doom, she is also grown to be a desperate person wanting to save other people. When interacting with the protagonist, it is also shown that she has somewhat kind of a naive disposition. This is due to the fact that she doesn't know about the nebulous rumors that happened in the forest when she established her bakery until the protagonist reminded her about one of the rumors.

If the protagonist ends up increasingly becoming mean towards her such as accusing her of putting a charade just to win them over or eating the creatures that she had created with magic known as the Strawbunnies, she will snap as her mental instability consumes her. She would either kill the protagonist and commits several heinous actions on them either by making their body into cake or pushing them into the oven or commits suicide in order to make herself useful for one last time due to the fact that she began to grow tired for all the torture that she had caused. In the good ending, while the protagonist understands Strawberry's tragic disposition and empathizes with her, they also think that Strawberry's method on saving people was wrong and a bit inexcusable. Despite this, Strawberry ended up realizing how horrible her actions were and began to atone for it as the protagonist and Strawberry manage to grow an understanding with each other as they live in the forest, teaching each other valuable skills while enduring the hardships together.

Powers and Abilities[]

Being a witch who was stationed inside a pocket dimension that was shaped like a forest, Strawberry possesses several arrays of feats and powers that could help her survive in the pocket dimension itself and execute her task properly. Several of her powers can be described as follows:

  • Magical Abilities: Being a witch, Strawberry herself possesses several magical abilities that could help her survive or do her task properly. However, her magical abilities are somewhat limited in range due to the fact that her magic itself only centered around strawberries, plants and anything sweet as she uses it to make lovely treats in order to make people smile. This bite her in the back badly due to the fact that she had no choice but to learn several magical abilities outside her expertise in order to protect several people that went lost at the pocket dimension or at the very least, granting them their deepest desires despite the fact that several people who came into her forest and then departed from her bakery ended up dying in the end. However, in the good ending, Strawberry's magic gradually improved to a certain degree even if it's not much as people continue to die in the end. Although at the same time, the protagonist also attempts to cheer her up in order to survive the tumultuous time together.
    • Creating Magical Creatures: Although her magic is somewhat limited, it was revealed that Strawberry herself can create some things into becoming living magical creatures. However, due to her limited range in magic, all of her living creatures look like Strawberries in the end. This can be shown where Strawberry manages to create several creatures known as Strawbunny, a cute critter that resembles a bunny but made from strawberries. In one of the endings, she has a somewhat understandable disposition after seeing the protagonist eating the creature that she had created in front of her, which shows her being disgusted and revolted with what the protagonist had done due to the fact that they had recently just eat a living being that she had created with her blood and sweat in a very gruesome manner which resulted in her getting snapped and kill the protagonist in the end.
    • Decoration Magic: Other than creating magical creatures, Strawberry also showed herself to have an ability to decorate a building through her magic. This is due to the fact that the building that she currently inhabited was originally a regular forest cabin until she transforms it by creating decorations through her magic and making it as her own personal bakery. It is stated by Strawberry herself that it took a long time and effort to perfect her magic in order to decorate her own bakery and make things cute.
  • Cooking Skills: Befitting her job as a pastry chef in the bakery, Strawberry herself is extremely skilled at cooking. This is due to the fact that despite her extremely limited range of magic which is only related to strawberries, plants or anything sweet, she also manages to cook several foods from all kinds of variety such as croissants, cakes, cookies and more. It is stated by the protagonist that she also manages to create a food more than just anything related to strawberries which left them startled after seeing her magnificent cooking skills that could create several varieties of foods. However, when she snapped, she had no hesitation to use several nasty ingredients to make her own food. One such ingredient being the flesh of a human being in which she used it after killing the protagonist and her own flesh in order to make a delicious strawberry cake so that she could be somewhat useful even after her death. In the end, her mastery in cooking proved to be one of the useful skills that she used alongside gardening to survive the harsh environment of the pocket dimension she was stationed in and in the good ending, she then taught her cooking skills towards protagonist so that they could also survive the pocket dimension.
  • Gardening Skills: Other than cooking and using magic (albeit in a very limited range), it is also shown that Strawberry herself has magnificent gardening skills. Her gardening abilities can be showcased where the protagonist complimented her garden due to how much love and effort she had put into it alongside decorating her house. Her passion on gardening can be shown where she had gardening shears in her bedroom that can be used by the Playable Character to cut the vines Strawberry had chained towards them to prevent them from escaping. In the end, her mastery in gardening proved to be one of the useful skills that she used alongside cooking to survive the harsh environment of the pocket dimension she was stationed in due to the fact that she won't be running out of food supplies in that dimension and in the good ending, she then taught her gardening skills towards protagonist so that they could also survive the pocket dimension.
  • Physical Abilities: Despite Strawberry's skills and feats seemingly only possessing magic, cooking and gardening at first, it is also shown that Strawberry herself possesses a kind of superhuman physical abilities. One such attribute that she was gifted was a supernatural speed and supernatural strength. Her stunning physical attributes can be shown in the two bad endings where in the "The Loop" ending, she uses her supernatural speed so that she could capture the protagonist who was running away. In the "Wicked Witch" ending, it is also shown that she could use her supernatural strength by lifting the protagonist and pushing them towards her oven which resulted in them getting killed in the end.
